If you’re family or want to feel like you’re home when you’re away from home in Hawaii this is a great choice it has this amazing comfort not only outside on the Lenay and on the balcony but just in the kitchen hanging out at night time eating dinner with the girls reading and watching movie playing cards doing something different with some of our favorite moments in Hawaii oh yeah plus walking down the baby beach after going to other beaches became our routine so many things to say and the host Are easy to deal with and if you had text or call about anything.

Great Location, Could Use an Update
Stayed here with some of my extended family. The location is amazing- close to Baby Beach, walking distance to the shopping plaza, and a short drive to Poipu. The back yard is gorgeous and we really enjoyed spending time out there. Check in was supposed to be at 4, but we hadn’t heard from management with the key code by 4:05, so I had to reach out to them. They were responsive and apologetic, and then upon arriving, we found the cleaning staff had inadvertently left with the keys from the lock box, so we had to wait for a key until 5 oclock. The home itself is adorable, but is in need of some upgrades. The upholstery on the sofas is musty, slightly mildewed, and tearing from years of sun damage. Same goes for the dining chairs. The furniture is unraveling… all of which is very tempting for little toddler hands to bother, so keep that in mind if traveling with kids. We ended up not using the pack n play on premise because of the stains and smell. They do provide beach towels, but only 1 per person, which meant we were constantly drying the towels as we were at the beach at least 2 times a day. Just a reminder that there is no AC, but they do provide plenty of fans. Just be prepared to sleep with all the doors and windows open to stay cool. Lastly, the kitchen was well stocked with appliances and gear, but the only spices on hand were salt and pepper, so if you are planning on cooking, you may need to stock up.
Mahalo Annie for taking the time to leave a review and share your feedback. First off, we are so happy that you enjoyed the location and size of the property. We are glad that you had enough space for everyone to feel comfortable. We do want to apologize again for the delayed check-in and the mix-up regarding the keys. We understand this was not an ideal situation after a long day of travel. We are glad that it did get sorted out and that you were able to get in and settled quickly. The home is advertised with a Deluxe interior rating. While this means it hasn’t been updated recently, it also means that everything should be clean and well-maintained. We will be sure to inspect the items you describe and make the necessary recommendations to the owner to have them repaired or replaced. We will also take care of the pack-and-play you mentioned. This is not standard equipment in our rentals and we often suggest guests rent the baby gear they might need for their stay. We look forward to hosting you again soon. Aloha.

Lovely spot! The geiko‘s take a little getting used to.
This was our first family vacation to Hawaii and this place was close to perfect. Really close to baby beach and other great locations for kids. The home came with sand toys, chairs and beach umbrellas. The kitchen had everything we needed to enjoy meals at home. The only down side is the lack if AC. We went in the middle of July, so it was obviously hot, even with the brief periods of rain. There were plenty fans in the rooms, so if having AC isn’t an issue, this place is great for a family trip. That being said, we absolutely recommend this place and would stay here again!

Wonderful property! We enjoyed the peaceful yard with their lounge chairs and the very well equipped kitchen. The deck upstairs overlooks the garden and also you can see the ocean. We loved our stay, just be aware that it is on a road, so you will hear cars drive by. But then, it’s Kauai, so it’s not very, very busy!.

We loved the home. Perfect for our stay. The area is very quiet. We had 4 adults and it was perfect. Each couple had there own master bedroom with a bathroom attached. Definitely large enough for more guests. Close enough to walking to the beach, restaurants, shopping, farmers market. We really enjoyed walking to Baby Beach for sunsets. Well stocked with everything you need from kitchen items to beach gear. Can’t say enough how much we loved this house. Thank you for letting us use your home as ours for 10 days.

This house is gorgeous – really a home more than a rental property. The house is set up well and stocked extremely well. The location is fantastic – close to everything – shops, beach, wonderful restaurants. The home is spacious and can accommodate more people than our group. There were 4 of us and we had tons of room. The property itself outside is well maintained and has lovely plants and trees. Gorgeous – I would stay again and plan to.

Good choice
This is an excellent house – unusual in that living quarters are downstairs with kitchen and living room upstairs, which makes so much sense. Plenty of room, everything works pretty well. Short walk to Baby Beach – just five or six minutes even with little kids. Short walk to the shops and restaurants. While ocean-view is a bit of a stretch (you can see it if you’’re tall enough and stand in the right place) the view is beautiful over the beautifullly-treed neighborhood. A lovely 2-mile walk to Spouting Horn. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

The location is convenient to most everything on the island. The house has everything you need for cooking, washing, beachcombing, etc. There is plenty of room and the house was very clean. You can see and hear the ocean which is only a short walk away. Baby beach was like having a private beach for snorkelling and swimming. We really enjoyed this house. There is no AC and it was unusually warm for August. There are many fans throughout and we spent many evenings on the Lanai.

Fantastic week in Poipu
We just returned from a great week in Kauai. We thoroughly enjoyed this home. As many other reviewers have said, it is well outfitted and well stocked. Location is great. We loved having the beach so close by (suggestion for those of you that want to use Baby Beach – get some aqua socks to protect your feet…there are some sharper coral rocks out there). At night, you could hear the waves crashing. So great to sleep with the windows open with the breeze and the sound of the ocean.
The walkability of this house is not just about the beach. You can walk to the Long’s Drugs shopping center in about 5 – 10 minutes. There are a number of great restaurants there (we ate at Tortilla Republic on our last evening – great food). Just west of the house is The Beach House – another very nice restaurant that we visited. We also cooked in a few evenings and having the gas grill was a bonus (easier than coals). I would also recommend a place called Da Crack for some quick mexican food (no seating, it’s all just takeout).
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Kauai vacation
Nice home and location. Appreciated foil, baggies, etc. Appliances could use a little updating. Plenty of room for 6.
Amazing property well equipped for cooking, entertaining, or hitting the beach. Excellent location!!
We had an amazing time staying a week in March at Akala Pua! The house was very clean, well organized, and provided a perfect relaxing environment. Loved the ocean view and listening to the beautiful birds filling the trees every day. The island breeze and indoor fans keep the house very comfortable and enjoyable at all times of day. The Lanai’s are perfect for reading a good book, enjoying your favorite drink, or just relaxing in the sun. The kitchen is stocked well and provided everything we needed during our stay. This house is in a perfect location and within walking distance or a short drive of everything you want to do in Poipu. We appreciated and made much use of the beach towels and were pleasantly surprised at how much beach gear was in the garage to use. The adjacent rental house shares the backyard with this property but gives you enough space and privacy that this isn’t a problem. We found ourselves enjoying coffee and good conversation with the other family during our stay. In summary, this property is worth every penny and will give you the island experience you’re looking for. I’ll be recommending this house to everyone I know and will definitely be repeating a trip here in the future.
Beautiful, well maintained home on Kaui
This home is in a convienent location with a short walk or drive to different beaches and other locations. Kitchen and laundry room are well equiped. Be prepared to bring spices and other basics for the kitchen if you plan to cook, salt & pepper were the only seasonings available. Loved the reverse floor plan and deck off the dining area which we used often. Six adults stayed for a week in February and had a great time with plenty of room for all of us. Was nice to have beach chairs, coolers and beach towels to use. We took short walks to the Beach House restaurant that has great happy hour each day with live music and pupus with the best mai tias weve ever had!
Would definately consider staying here in the future!

Fantastic stay!
This home was perfect for our situation, traveling with another couple. Each couple had a large comfortable bedroom plus bathroom with double sink. The two bedrooms are fully equal. We could easily have asked a couple of more friends to join us in the third bedroom. Everything was clean, well stocked and well thought through. Since we like to shop at the farmer’s market and cook and we take leftovers for picnics day trips, we really appreciated that here were plenty of reusable plastic containers of various sizes, different coolers for travel, ziplock bags, etc. I left some ice packs we used during our stay that I hope the owner will leave in the freezer so future guests don’t have to buy these too! I would have loved to see a few more basics for food prep like olive oil, or a few more seasonings, but otherwise the kitchen was very well stocked and organized in terms of equipment and dishes. There were even disposable hot drink cups with lids we used on a few occasions so we could get out to an early morning tour on a different part of the island and enjoy our coffee underway. Location is perfect next to many swimmable beaches, but not in the middle of the large resorts on Poipu. One very nice shopping center with many eateries and a well stocked drug store is within easy walking distance. I usually don’t stay the same place twice, but if the situation called for it, I would stay here again.
Hi Leah,
Thank you for your great review and don’t forget the return guest discounts we offer!
We don’t supply any foodstuffs like olive oil or seasonings (other than salt and pepper), because of liability reasons and because we don’t think most guests want to use food or fixings left by previous guests. But some guests don’t mind using them so the maids only discard anything that might spoil or has just a little left. Soy sauce is a good example; it should be refrigerated after opening but guests leave it in the cupboard so it has to be removed. We try to let everyone know that they are welcome to use whatever is in the kitchen, but if opened bottles of stuff bothers them they should get new ones.
We started providing the to-go cups when we noticed how many cups and glasses went missing from the house.

Perfect house for two families
We loved our stay. The house was warm and inviting with all of the amenities one would expect: functional fully stocked kitchen, lovely dining area, living room, lanai, comfortable and spacious bedrooms, laundry room, and plenty of towels.
The house is located in a lovely area close to the Beach House, Old Koloa Town, Poipu Beach, Brennecke’s Beach, and Kukui’ula Village Shopping Center. We especially enjoyed early morning walks along Poipu Beach Road where we watched sea turtles swim in the surf.
If you like to Boogie Board, the waves at Brennecke’s beach are perfect.

Lovely, Spacious Home Near the Beach!
Our family of six adults and one baby found plenty of room to come together for shared meals and games but also found the home well designed for privacy when needed. The home is exactly as pictured and is within easy walking distance of two great snorkeling beaches. We appreciated all the little “extras” provided to make our stay pleasant (well-equipped kitchen with basic cooking supplies, beach towels, BBQ and tools, etc.). Fun to watch the green parakeets and sunsets from the patio off the living room each evening!

The house was perfect for our family of 3 couples except there is no bathroom on the upper floor!
A perfect home for our visit. Comfortable beds, a nice yard and close enough to walk to the beach and shopping easily. Upon our arrival there was a note apologizing for the smell in the fridge which was HORRENDOUS. We could not use it and we’re supplied with an ice chest while the refrigerator “aired out”. The entire 2 weeks we were there it had varying degrees of smell. After bleaching it was tolerable for awhile, but the aroma always returned. We later found out that fish bait was left in there to cause the problem. Smoke detectors went off 4 nights while we were there causing some disturbed sleep. Owner said the batteries had been replaced, but definitely scary to be awakened by the alarms. We did enjoy our stay but felt that our complaints could have been handled differently.
The previous guests had let something rot in the refrigerator and we scrubbed it several times, including after this family left. There was no time to do anything else. It is a fairly new Samsung refrigerator. As far as I know, our property manager responded immediately to all their issues. I had checked the batteries in all the smoke detectors the day before they arrived, and no one is quite sure why the smoke detectors started chirping. The guests disabled the smoke detectors and we had a handyman fix the problem when they left. Regarding the bathroom situation, our VRBO listing says all three bathrooms are on the same floor as the bedrooms, two are ensuite and the third is across the hall from the third bedroom and at the bottom of the stairs.

Beautiful home so close to everything!
My family came together to spend our Thanksgiving vacation here, and this house was perfect for us. This was our 4th stay at Buzz Wisda’s properties (2 times here and 2 times in the smaller house right behind this one). The house was very clean and ready for us when we came in late at night – lights on, fans on and windows open. There was even some fresh fruit and bottled water which we appreciated. We were able to keep our car in the garage, and made use of the snorkels, masks and beach chairs that were in there. I really liked the full sized washer and dryer, complete with laundry soap, and the kitchen was laid out nicely with all appliances working perfectly. We went to Costco the day after we got here, and then did quite a bit of cooking at the house, using the grill in the back for steaks and such. You can see the ocean from the lanai off of the kitchen, so we enjoyed eating out on it for many meals. Mr. Wisda was always prompt to reply to any questions I had. We would definitely stay here again! If my husband and I come back just as a couple or with just one of our grown children, we would probably stay again in the smaller house. It is also lovely. It doesn’t have a garage, but it is set back from Lawaii Road behind the bigger house so it is protected from the daytime road noise. However, it was always very quiet during the overnight hours, so we always slept well. The beds are very comfortable. One thing we found interesting was all of the parakeets that come in every evening around 6:00 p.m. and roost in the palm trees around us, and then leave every morning around the same time. There are hundreds of them! We loved this location since it is so close to Poipu Beach, Lihue, and even Waimea canyon. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting a clean, comfortable and beautiful vacation home here in sunny Poipu!
Family Dream Vacation
We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. This home provided a place for our family to make wonderful memories together. We spent the days exploring the island and then returned to the big dining room table to share a meal and details of our day. The kitchen was a dream to work in and was stocked with all the needed cooking supplies. The yard was a fun spot for our grandchildren to play and the BBQ we used for almost every dinner.
The trade winds kept us cool for a good nights sleep, but it was a bit warm in the late afternoons.
The garage provided beach chairs, coolers, and a few other toys we used daily. We found big beach towels in the well stocked linen closet. The laundry room was perfect for our big family. We loved Baby Beach and spent many evenings watching the sunsets.
Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Great house to vacation with your family on the gorgeous island of Kauai
It’s a pretty, well appointed house..we stayed there for five days, and it was especially convenient since we were three generations..it’s so cool when everyone gets their own bath, their own private space..can resort to rest if he wishes, or stay with everybody..that sense of privacy was truly great.
We really loved the appearances..:) I’m a firm believer that a house should reflect where it stands, it just makes everything better..and indeed it gave that breezy, island-y feel, with how it was built and designed and decorated..cozy, comfy, airy, spelling summer.
That was one of the reasons we chose it..and it didn’t disappoint.
Green parrots came each evening at sunset..:) Was fun to watch them.
We loved the location..so many things to do within short walk or 5 min drive. We loved the Poipu State Beach Park-snorkeling was fab!
but it has sand too, so great for kids as well. We saw numerous seals, and a turtle. You should be respectful around these..:) give them space, and all.
Spouting Horn and Botanical Gardens are really close, very good Beach House Restaurant is one minute drive..out of all the restaurants(we weren’t to many though) I liked them the best.
Shops are very close as well, and charming too..we visited Farmer’s Market, with its abundance of vendors and live music..we loved it.
One of the store markets(in Koloa I think) has the best poke ever. Highly recommend! Especially if you have to keep gluten fee diet like me-they have gluten free poke too, unlike others.
we also enjoyed Friday Art event in Hanapepe..some wonderful artists. I still think of some paintings we saw there.
My only regret was having too little time…we did go to Waimea Canyon(gorgeous! don’t miss it for world), drove to the North Shore..but my main feeling is:-we should come back..we’ve been to Hawaii before, Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii..and it amazes me how every island still has its own character, and is incredible in its own right. I felt in love with Kauai, during this short stay..I hope life will give us opportunities to visit again.
Thank you for making our stay comfortable, easy, and even more wonderful. Aloha!
Thank you for all the great information, Vlad, and we hope you come back often and take advantage of our return guest discounts.

Wonderful, well-equiped home.
Beautiful home. Living room and kitchen upstairs, 3 bedrooms downstairs, each with own bath. Home is right on the road, but that was not a problem. Easy access to town and beach.
Fantastic home. Short walk to the beach. Equiped with everything needed for a fantastic vacation!
This was the perfect home for our family vacation. The owners were wonderful to work with and very accommodating. The house had everything we needed for a superb and comfortable stay to include beach towels, all the kitchen amenities, spacious bedrooms, comfortable beds, huge upstairs with plenty of room for a family of 6. We loved the fact that there were three bathrooms so no one needed to share. It was super clean and bug free. We did have a few gecko visitors but enjoyed their company (especially our daughter as she has one for a pet). The lanai was the place we had coffee every morning, listening to the ocean and watching the birds. The backyard was an excellent place to kick the ball around while waiting for our food to get done on the grill. There was plenty of space to park three cars. The beach was a 4 minute walk from the house of which we visited almost every day, Spouting Horn and the botanical gardens were a short drive up the street. This was our children’s first visit to the island and having a special place to stay made their experience all the better. They commented on how they could call this place their home. We will definitely would stay here again and recommend this home to our friends and family.
Thank you, Kim, for the kind words. Valorie and I try hard to make your vacation as nice as possible. Please return often and take advantage of our return guest discounts. Aloha, Buzz Wisda
Very lovely home!
There were 6 adults in my family spending the week in your beautiful home and we all agreed we would come back to stay there in a heartbeat! We especially loved the layout, having an open concept in living room, eating area and kitchen with a lanai that had a peekaboo view of the water. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, very pretty décor. We all appreciated the close proximity of the very nice shopping area and the beaches and the fact we could walk back and forth between them all. It was also especially nice having beach towels, chairs and mats and didn’t have to worry about bringing all of that from the mainland or buying and only using for a short time. Washer and dryer were also wonderful to have! Your home was everything you said it was and our first experience with VRBO was a wonderful one. And added benefit to our stay, was the sweet family that rented the other home on your property, we got along great! We’ll see you soon again I hope!

Can we live here please!!?
This was an amazing vacation experience. The house was beautiful and so well appointed. We did not need anything!! The kitchen has everything we needed right down to salt and pepper.
We like to grind our coffee beans which we were able to do with either of the two grinders. There were plenty of beach towels, hot water, and the beds were very comfy. Two of the pillows were a little too hard for our liking but we just switched them out for softer ones with the shams on them. Even though the view wasn’t a full ocean view, we still were able to see beautiful skies and lush greenery and we even were surprised by the flocks of parrots/parakeets who flew in each evening. We had a little trouble watching videos on the vcr but we just switched to watching the tv. The location was perfect. We could walk to the beach to snorkel or to the shopping center to shop. Overall, we would highly recommend this property and will book it again if it’s available.

It was a beautiful 3 bedroom & 3 bath home. It was great for our family of five. We called about the leaking sink & window cover that was sticky- they couldn’t have been nicer. They were immediately fixed. The kitchen was well stocked & nicely appointed.
It was wonderful being close to Baby Beach & Lawai Beach. We loved having the bogey boards & chairs for our use.

Great vacation home with a terrific location
We spent a week with our son’s family in this great vacation home. We had 4 adults, and 2 boys ages 4 1/2 and almost 2. The first floor has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and great laundry area, as well as closets, and access to the very nice backyard. The 2nd floor is a great room with a fully stocked kitchen, a large dining table and a living room area with couches and chairs and a TV and DVD player. There is also a second floor veranda with a large table where we ate many meals. There are lots of towels, bedding, laundry detergent and supplies, condiments in the refrigerator, folding beach chairs, sand toys, boogie boards, and a full sized surf board, etc. This is the best stocked VRBO location I have ever been to. Beautiful Poipu Beach is about a mile away and “Baby Beach” is a 4 minute walk. The excellent Beach House Restaurant is 2 blocks away. This is a great location, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Kaua’i.

Great location, great backyard, clean and comfortalbe house!
We recently stayed for a week with three small children. The house was clean, comfortable and the backyard was perfect for our kids to play in while we relaxed. There is so much within walking distance to the house too. You can walk to the farmers market on Wednesdays, restaurants, small market, shops and (where we spent a lot of time) Baby Beach.
Even though there was a couple renting the house behind us at the same time, the backyard still felt private to us.

Peaceful Stay
From start to finish, the owner was very communicative and easy to deal with. There were 7 of us that included, myself, husband, son, daughter in law, 5 month old grandson plus our two college age children. The home was just beautiful & super clean. The kitchen, linens, paper products and soaps were well stocked. Beds were comfortable and having 3 bathrooms was great! The layout was excellent, plenty of room for everyone. You could sleep in or go to bed early and others be upstairs and it was quiet. We rented a car but there were plenty of places to walk to from the home. You could easily walk to baby beach & Da Crack for yummy take out burritos & the Shops at Kukui’ula where there were restaurants, coffee, ice cream shop, grocery & drug store. The walk to Spouting Horn, Sheraton, Marriott & Poipo Beach wasn’t too far either. The furniture & grounds of the home were really well maintained. There were plenty of beach towels and beach chairs in the garage. I was a little worried before we came about the lack of air conditioning but Buzz assured us it would be just fine and it was. We wouldn’t have needed it at all! We went to the Costco & grocery across the street from Costco(can’t remember the name) in Lihue when we arrived at the airport for snacks, drinks and diapers. We thought the prices weren’t too bad at all. We rented a crib, baby backpack & beach tent for our grandson from Ready Rentals. They were great and had it all set up before we arrived. We would definitely rent this home again and totally recommend it!
Thank you for the kind review; we work hard on the houses and we are most happy you had a great vacation!

The perfect house for our Kauai vacation!
I did a lot of research before choosing Akala Pua for our Kauai vacation. On paper, the price was good, and the house seemed to meet all our needs. When we arrived, I was pleased that everything was as advertised.
As you walk in the front door, the ground floor has 3BD/3BA. This worked well for us, as each of our two kids could have their own bedroom and bathroom. The beds were comfortable. There is also a laundry room with late model washer/dryer. (This really came in handy as our clean clothes started to dwindle near the end of our stay.)
Upstairs is a large room with living area, dining area (with large dining table), and a kitchen. The kitchen was well-supplied: the only thing we really needed to buy to cook meals was the food. This room has high vaulted ceilings that added to the sense of space. There were numerous windows all over the house that could let the trade winds in, and ceiling fans in every room. This allowed us to stay relatively comfortable during hot humid days and nights.
The location was ideal. A five minute walk west on Lawai road takes you to Lawai Beach, which is a bit rocky, but has good snorkeling (you can rent snorkel equipment right there at Boss Frogs). A five minute walk west takes you to the Kukui’ula Shopping Center with some good restaurants and shops (and generally has several musicians in outside in the evenings to). For shopping, the Kukui’ula Market is about a block away (a lot less expensive than the Living Food Market in the shopping center!). A five minute drive takes you to the Poipu Beach Park, with great swimming/wading for the family, as well as some really good snorkeling.
Restaurants in the resort/tourist areas are generally good but expensive. I recommend also trying out diners and cafes frequented by locals as the food is excellent, copious, and reasonable. You sometimes have to search those out. Here are a couple of suggestions: Tip Top Café in Lihue and the Waipouli Deli & Restaurant in Kapaa.
We called the management company (Garden Island Rentals) once with a question. They were responsive and friendly.
We had a great time in the perfect house for a family.
Thank you for the kind words, Jeffrey. We try hard to give everyone a good value so they can have a nice vacation.
Great home, perfect layout
Beautiful home, very near the beach, with the perfect layout for friends/family who like to travel together, but also want a little privacy. As the info shows, the three bedrooms (two with en suite baths, the third one has bath across the hall, but its private lanai compensates) were all level 1, and the kitchen, dining and living area were on level 2. That made it easy for early risers (like I am) to drink a cup of coffee on the upstairs lanai, or eat breakfast without disturbing others. Nicely furnished, well stocked with anything you might need (even kitchen gadgets I don’t myself have), and comfortable. Within walking distance to a shopping area with restaurants, a drug store, and grocery. The lanai can easily seat six, though ad shows four. Shared backyard has privacy from front yard/street with ample space, and has lounge chairs and a grill. Due to some minor questions, I had to contact the owner directly, and he was helpful and accommodating…Highly recommend..!

Great house and location
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home on Kauai
It fit our needs perfectly with bedrooms downstairs and living area above
Close to baby beach for the grandkids and walking distant to many places from restaurants , shopping, and snorkeling
The house was clean, well stocked in kitchen , and coolers and sand toys in the garage
Thank you for sharing your home to complete a wonderful vacation for our family

Could not have been any better. A wonderfully appointed and comfortable house.
On a scale of 1 to 10, this house and location would rate a 10. Two other couples and my wife and I had a wonderful time here. The upstairs great room with deck was very roomy and comfortable. I have never stayed at a better appointed rental property. Everything was provided (except food, of course), and there was more than an ample back up supply of linens, towels, soaps, etc. There was no A/C, but the proximity to the ocean, together with ceiling fans in every room and excellent window locations made an A/C unnecessary. It was very evident by the quality of the furniture, by the yard maintenance, and by the cleanliness of the property that the owners take a lot of pride in this house
The only down side was the center bedroom, which had two twin beds. We drew straws, and my wife and I were lucky to get one of the two bedrooms with a king bed. I understand the rationale of a room with two twins, i.e. if you had two children who wanted their separate beds. In spite of this, all beds were firm and comfortable.
If I were to stay in Kauai again, I would not spend time looking for another place to stay. Everyone in group was more than pleased with the property.
Thank you for the kind words. As you mentioned in your review, my wife and I do take a lot of pride in the house. We know that a Kauai vacation is expensive and we feel that you deserve the best value we can provide.

Waa fantastic until the end of our stay
1st, the house is in a great spot and we enjoyed our stay on the island. There’s construction next door that we didn’t know about but it felt like white noise for the majority of our stay. There are little things around the house that could use tweaking (I.e. Ice machine doesn’t work, dish washer is iffy, warm showers are few and far between), but these things really didn’t get to us as our plan was to chill, take it easy & relax – we are typically an easy going bunch. Where things got hairy was on our last full day when completely unknown to us a gardening company showed up to do 1.5 months worth of gardening catch up in 1 day. It had been authorized by the owner who was on the island at the time but didn’t bother to notify us even though he had stopped by a few days prior. The major issue here – beyond the lack of communication – was that we had 2 babies with us that were howling while they should have been napping because it was so loud right outside of the bedrooms. We spoke to the landscapers, who were wonderful, and they indicated they’d be happy to return after the weekend to complete their work. We tried calling the owner to notify him and got his wife…who indicated that it sounded good that they’d return Monday. We went out for a bit despite cranky and tired babies and returned for nap #2 to find the landscapers had returned. Buzz had ordered them to come back and complete the work. We asked them to leave again & called Buzz once again to discuss and notify him of our displeasure. He was quick to indicate that ‘had I answered my phone’ earlier he would have been able to explain, which certainly set the tone for a couple of very angry conversations. Here’s the thing…if he had bothered to communicate with us, we would have tried to work out a win for both sides…but without knowing, & based on his approach to not provide customer service but rather make outlandish suggestions (I.e. Why don’t you take the kids to the canyon while the guys work, why don’t we refund you for your last night & you pack your kids up and stay in a hotel so we can get the yard cleaned up, the guys can’t come any other day (even though they told us they could come Monday) & the list goes on) we won’t be back! So this is our review: the place could use an update & some tweaks but it works, the location is nice, but the owner lacks sense, customer service, and respect for young families. Just hope nothing comes up during your stay. The mgt company didn’t return our calls
This was the most difficult group of guests we have had in 18 years of renting our houses. But I understand their position completely; they are two young mothers and we have all been through the sleeplessness and craziness involved with small children. All the “tweaking” things they refer to in the house were extremely minor and took only moments to fix and would have been fixed during their stay if they had told us sooner, except the ice maker which still has a part on back order. The gardeners are another story. The landscaping looked horrible. The lawn was about six inches high, the hedges were overgrown making it harder to walk to the back house, and there were weeds in all the plantings. Our gardener quit to go into real estate sales without telling anyone and it took a long time to find a new one. We found one Thursday afternoon when he told me they could mow the lawn and trim the hedges the next day, or wait another week until the next Friday, so I opted for the next day rather than live through an even more overgrown situation. When the gardeners arrived the next morning, the guests would not let them mow the lawn or trim the hedges and verbally abused them. The owner of the gardening service pulled his men from the job because he said the men were very upset and would have started a fist fight with the guests if they had stayed. I called the guests at the house and got no answer so I assumed they had left the house to go to the beach and I sent the gardeners back to the house. Unfortunately, the guests returned to the house. The gardeners agreed to come back Saturday and I relayed that to the guests by telephone which is when things heated up. They said they had “put up” with the overgrown situation, but their attitude was to do mow it during the next guests’ stay, not theirs. During these conversations, they were very condescending to me and kept saying “work with me” but they offered no compromises and were unwilling to even listen to any compromise I proposed. I offered several possible compromise solutions including refunding about $300 of their rent so they could spend the last day of their vacation at a hotel with a swimming pool and they just got more upset at whatever I offered. I should have called them Thursday night, but I asked it that would have done anything to change their attitude and they said “no”. The gardeners agreed to come back Monday, and the next guests are more understanding and gracious.

Great vacation home
We enjoyed the home and the area surrounding. Every day at 6 or 7pm we watched a big turtle slowly climb out of the water at the little turtle beach. We enjoyed walking along the beachside all the way to PoiPu beach. A 30 minute walk. We rented a car so we could drive all over the island. We tried to go snorkeling at all of the 10 top beaches in Kauai. They were all beautiful. But our favorite place to snorkel was Koloa beach a 5 minute walk from our vacation home. It has beautiful fish and we swam with the turtles. One day a seal was sleeping on the beach. Next door is a very nice restaurant. We loved sitting at the restaurant watching the surfers, snorkelers and sunsets. we had a fantastic time.

Wonderful family vacation
We really enjoyed everything that the house offered: Great ocean view, beautiful lawn with coconut trees in the back, convenient furnishings and stockings. We took a short walk and the ocean was right there. The location was perfect. We went swimming at Poipu beach and nearby beaches every day. And it only took 5-8 minutes of driving. There was all the beach gears in the garage, our kids loved it. We would definitely rent this house again next time we come back to Kauai.

Lovely but HOT!
This home is very nicely appointed and well stocked with everything you need EXCEPT AIR CONDITIONING. There are not enough fans on the island to keep this property cool enough to be comfortable. Two out of the three bedrooms had box fans so we had to buy one for the kids room because they couldn’t sleep.
With two fans going on high at night, it sounds like a 747 warming up in the bedroom.
Both of the king beds were worn out so you had to sleep in a gully. We even tried rotating them but there was no improvement at all.
The beach requires walking two blocks on a very busy road then turning the corner and walking back the same distance a block closer to a very tiny, rocky beach. not exactly “steps to the beach”. There is no pass through directly from the house to the beach as we thought. Misleading! There was also construction going on next door that we did not know about.
With AC and new mattresses, this house would get a much higher score.
I am sorry you were dissatisfied. We tell everyone that the house is not air conditioned but it is insulated , has two sided windows to catch the trade winds and has ceiling fans in every room. There will be a few days each year during the Kona winds when every house on Kauai is hot.
The mattresses are brand new as of February 2015. Nevertheless, we are having the mattress company come out to the house to try and resolve this complaint.
To get to the beach, guests just walk past four houses west (not two blocks as stated) to the ocean and then walk past six houses east (not two blocks) to the beach access. it takes 2-3 minutes at a slow pace. No one ever said there was a path to the beach through the adjacent houses.
Best vacation EVER!
From the moment we unlocked the door and walked in, we knew we had made the right decision about our vacation spot. We are frequent visitors to Kauai and have stayed in a wide variety of places, some good, some average, but never anything like Akala Pua! We spent two wonderful weeks and enjoyed every minute.
The division of rooms worked out perfectly for us; early-to-bed folks could leave others upstairs with music or TV and not be disturbed; early risers could go upstairs, make coffee, watch news and not disturb those who sleep later.
The kitchen was well-equipped and all in good working order. We found beach chairs in the garage and a healthy supply of beach towels; there was never a shortage of supplies on hand – every need was anticipated.
Though the audio-visual equipment was dated, we “made-do” and it would never be a deal-changer for us.
While there, I was selected for an overseas mission and needed access to a computer, scanner and copier. The great folks in the office made room for me and in three hours my work was done! I offered them lunch, but they had that base covered and told me my thanks was enough. I hope this review is an additional “thank-you” from four highly-satisfied visitors who plan to return as soon as we can!
Perfect Place to Stay
This place was absolutely awesome, perfect for families and also adult couples with 2 kids because the layout is just perfect. Everything was clean, fresh, in good working order and better than expected. We would love to stay here again, what a perfect gem.
Aloha Pacia,
Thank you for the kind review and it is always good to hear you had a great vacation.

Clean, very well maintained house and property!
While the Lawai Rd is very heavily traveled with visitors to the spouting horn and guests at nearby condos, the location of the home is just perfect. It is situated just minutes walk from great snorkeling at Lawai Beach and a quick 5 minute car ride to Kiahuna Beach (gorgeous) and Poipu Beach Park which is great for the little ones. It is just down the road from Koloa where you can get most all of your groceries if you don’t require any specialty items, and a perfect distance to explore the island on day trips, even to the North Shore. The major benefit to this location is that it’s in the Poipu vicinity but away from the two major hotels (Sheraton and Hilton).
The house itself is well furnished and stocked with all your needs. There are two master bedrooms and a smaller room that houses two twin beds and a detached bathroom. All bedrooms are on the ground floor which helps on warm nights. The owners and management staff are very helpful and gracious. I have stayed here three times and will continue to stay at this house whenever I visit Kauai! Mahalo nui loa!

Perfect vacation house for a family.
Beautiful house, tastefully decorated and well furnished with everything you need for a family vacation. It was well maintained and very clean. We had a problem with the microwave and it was dealt with promptly.
Best Vacation . . . EVER!
Four of us had the best and most relaxing vacation at Akala Pua. The location is super and facilities all you could want, though I wouldn’t mind an upgrade of AV equipment. But it wasn’t what I was there for, so it’s not a biggie. I had special need of services and called upon the staff of Garden Island Rentals and they came through like the champions theatre – I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. We originally planned on having six of us share the house, but it is really perfect for four. Having the beach chairs was super – we left our noodles behind so the next lucky people could enjoy them! Thank you, GIR!!!
Glad you had a great vacation! Don’t forget we have a wonderful return guest discount program.
Our family of six had a great time at Akala Pua!
My family of six had a wonderful time staying at Akala Pua! My two little granddaughters loved being so close to Baby Beach and we adults so enjoyed the spacious upstairs which seemed to be perfect for hanging out, talking and generally bonding and having a good time. Even when my son and his wife (who live on Kauai) visited, there was plenty of room for everyone. We are all vegans and vegetarians and prefer to cook at “home” especially as there seemed to be few veg-friendly restaurants in the area. We found the kitchen well-equipped, all we had to do was add food! The owner, Buzz, was very patient and helpful with my multiple questions before the trip and had helpful suggestions about the local farmers’ markets and activities for the little girls. We would love to return!

Good Place to Stay
My family of 3 stayed here for a week and really liked it. Generally, the place was as described. The upstairs common area location is smart to keep the heat away from sleeping quarters at night and to be able to view the ocean from the back deck during the day. The kitchen is open and there is a lot of space. We are just a couple with a baby, but we appreciated being able to spread out with the baby’s gear and have him sleep in a room separate from us. I also wanted a kitchen that would allow me to watch my baby on the floor in the living room or dining area, and this space was perfect for that. The sisal wall to wall carpet in the living areas and bedrooms is a practical choice. The various switches are also thoughtfully marked. The location is convenient to everything, and it was pretty quiet even though on the main road. The owner also has a bunch of beach gear plus some childrens’ items for use–we didn’t use any, but thought this could come in handy for others. While the property was generally well-cleaned, I did find potato chips and popcorn under the dining room table–since I have a floor-bound baby, I was concerned about these things. Also, unfortunately for us, the dishwasher door latch was broken when we got there. This prevented us from running the dishwasher because we could not get the door open once it was closed. This problem was handled well by the rental company, which dispatched a technician the same day, but the technician could not fix it for our stay because he said he had to order a part. This was a bit vexing for me because I was specifically looking for a place with a dishwasher so that I could sanitize/sterilize my baby’s milk supplies without having to boil them for extended time every day on vacation, but unfortunately, I could not use it for this purpose. While the owner was responsive regarding this and other issues, I was not offered any remediation for this essentially missing amenity. However, the owner had previously been kind enough to give us a couple of hours extra to check out since he didn’t have anyone coming the same day, so I left the issue alone. While this was manageable for us since we were only 2 adults, it could have been a major annoyance for a full house. The appliances generally appear a little older and show their wear, as do the dishes, etc.
I would consider renting from this owner again if I return to Kauai. On the whole we were satisfied, and we had a great time in Kauai with our baby
Aloha Sanchi,
Thank you for the kind words. I apologize for the dishwasher. We had no complaints from the previous guests that checked out the day you checked in, but the maid that washed the dishes before you arrived said the latch was sticking, so the latch must have broken just when you checked in. We have no way to predict when something like this will happen and one of the problems of living on a small island is that parts are not always readily available, and this part had to be shipped from Oahu.
I hope you return and we will be happy to offer you a 5% discount off the rent for your next stay.
Sincerely,
Buzz and Valorie Wisda

Great place to stay
Our family of six loved staying in this rental in June 2012. From the first conversation with the owner to the moment we left to return home, our experience was fantastic. The home is clean, well stocked, wonderfully located, and is spacious. If we return to Poipu, we will stay in this rental again. You will not go wrong if you choose to stay at Akala Pua. We loved it.
There were only a couple negatives, and they were minor. The mattresses were okay, but should probably be rotated/flipped. There was a too much of a depression in a couple of the beds. As for noise, the place is perfect except when a loud car drives by (the rental is on the street which provides access to many condos, The Beach House, Spouting Horn, etc.). But, there isn’t much traffic and none of us were ever awakened by a loud car driving by the place.
The beach towels, beach chairs, garage (with opener), laundry facilities, nice lawns, covered porch on the second story, and three bathrooms were all appreciated. Staying in this home is worth the difference in cost (if any) of a condo or room at a resort.
Aloha Brett and Kim,
Thank you for the kind words and we are so happy you had a great vacation. I will have the mattress rotated and flipped and I will review if we need a new mattress when we visit in August. Valorie and I slept on that bed in January and it was fine, and Valorie is a stickler for firm mattresses. Perhaps something happened between January and June!!?? We’ll get it fixed.
Come back often, we have a great discount program for return guests.

Wonderful place
We stayed here over the Christmas break and absolutely loved the place.
The layout of the house is effecient and roomy, there was the 6 of us. I liked having the living quarters upstairs, the views from the balcony are amazing. In the garage we found all sorts of snorkel gear and boogie boards, a coolbox and beachchairs, there were also lots of beach towels to use.The downstairs is for sleepng and loundry, great set up with private bathrooms for the 2 King bedrooms.
The fact that it took just 4 minutes to walk to Lawai beach was ideal,we love to snorkel and justabout everyday we walked over there ,we checked out all the other places as wel but this was our favorite place.Baby beach is just like the name says for babies and ideal for small children,we liked Brennecke beach the best for boogie boarding and swimming. We would without hessitation recomend this house to anyone.
The location is wonderful, close to grocery stores ect and quite often the weather was better in the south.
